Hey everyone!

This is the portion of my site dedicated to my writing journey.

PLEASE CHECK OUT MY AUTHOR PLATFORM: KimmeryMoss.com to follow my writing journey, access key writing resources, and see what I’m currently reading!

A little about me:

My writing journey first began as a child, who at age 7, wrote a poem about fish for my mother on a napkin (that is no joke, people–she still HAS it, and it is positively hilarious).

In my teens I kept journals religiously, ones I hope no one dares find and read, myself included. We can be little psychos at that age, which I’m sure I was. I later decided to pursue Journalism, but during college I serendipitously landed amongst the poets and creative writers. I found my people. I taught poetry to 5th graders every week, culminating in a published anthology with every student’s work inside it. I attended poetry reading and book signing events, and I lived in the gorgeous Doheney Library on campus (when I wasn’t out being a crazy college kid). I graduated in 2013 from USC with a Bachelor’s Degree in English/Creative Writing with an emphasis in Poetry.

One might call this the most useless degree ever earned, but I disagree. I’ll use the brilliant Robin Williams to explain,

“We don’t read and write poetry because it’s cute. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race. And the human race is filled with passion. And medicine, law, business, engineering, these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for.”

-John Keating (played by Robin Williams), Dead Poets Society

I went on to part with my love of writing for a few years while I focused on helping others learn to read and write as a 7th and 8th grade Composition & Language Arts teacher in South Los Angeles and later in Riverside, CA. I now dedicate as much time as possible to honing my craft, diving into the words of others, and playing around with words.

Join me on this crazy journey! It’s what we stay alive for, after all.
